The construction of a new office building in the Central Business District (CBD) is set to bring over 300 workers to the area, significantly contributing to the city’s economic growth and revitalization.

The 25 Esk St office building, an eight-level development, is nearing completion, with the first occupants expected to move into the fourth floor this week. The property manager, Sue Hill, has expressed her aim to have the building fully operational by the end of July. As part of the Invercargill Central development, the design of the building aims to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding area, promoting vibrancy and increasing foot traffic within the inner city.

Mrs. Hill has mentioned that 85% of the building has already been leased, indicating high demand for office space in the CBD area. Tenants include Westpac, who will occupy the ground and first floors, Forsyth Barr on half of the third level, and Bonisch on the fourth floor. The HWR group will be located from the fifth to the seventh floors. Additionally, the building features an eighth floor designated for the Richardson family and HWR property, with both an office space and an apartment that boasts exceptional amenities and facilities.

The construction project has been ongoing for over 18 months, with approximately 50 contractors working diligently to bring the vision to life. Mrs. Hill acknowledged that the project is now in its final stages, with the focus on tidying up any minor defects, completing the interior furnishings, and connecting the essential services. The building has been meticulously designed, with an emphasis on durability and sustainability. Recycled materials and sustainable products have been incorporated wherever possible, ensuring a timeless design that will withstand the test of time.

Several notable features add to the building’s sustainability objectives. Recycled rubber has been used for building the stairs, and recycled fabrics can be found in the furniture and carpeting of the HWR offices. The extensive use of natural light throughout the building and the inclusion of live plants, such as moss in the toilets, enhance the overall environment and contribute to the sustainability goals. The plants in the foyer had to be imported from Australia to meet fire safety standards, emphasizing the commitment to safety and quality.

With the completion of the project, the doors of the inner city development will be open to the public from July, encouraging community engagement and connectivity.
