Teen critically hurt after being dragged by car
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) reports that the incident took place on Thursday before 2 p.m. when two groups of teenagers gathered near 20 Mile Road and Fruit Ridge Avenue in Tyrone Township.
According to witnesses, one group was sitting inside a car while the other group stood outside of it, resulting in a heated conflict concerning a vape pen.
Deputies state that the car accelerated at high speeds, dragging one of the teens along with it. Subsequently, the victim was found lying on the road and transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The victim has been identified as Colin Rogers by family members.
FOX 17 had the opportunity to speak with the victim’s father, Clay Rogers, outside Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital on Friday morning.
Mr. Rogers shared that his son has undergone multiple surgeries and is currently in a coma.
He further explained that his son was standing up for his friends and attempting to help them retrieve a vape pen which had been stolen by two suspects.

He continued, “Colin reached his hand in the vehicle, and we believe, though not certain, that the window was rolled up, and the car took off, dragging him along, until they turned the corner. That’s when he sustained the severe injuries. All over a $20 vape pen.”
Mr. Rogers described his son as a “country kid” who enjoys video games and dirt bikes. Colin aspires to study writing and law in the future.
KCSO announced that investigators have since located the car. It has also been discovered that all the teenagers involved were acquainted and aged between 15 and 17.
