Your new favorite weekend getaway might be just down the street.
The Margaret Hotel in the CBD has unveiled their summer “Staycation” pop-up, open Thursdays through Sundays until Labor Day, from noon until at least 10 p.m. With free admission, guests can enjoy cocktails, ice cream, Spanish-inspired food and a pint-sized pool (basically an oversized hot tub).
The pop-up comes from local chefs Jillian Duran, of Rahm Haus ice cream, and Adam Mayer of Txo Txo Pintxos. Rahm Haus, which previously set up shop inside the nearby Courtyard Brewery, is serving up a selection of seasonal scoops like peachy miso, cookies and cream and blueberry thai basil sorbet.
Txo Txo Pintxos is serving a menu of creative plates like chorizo smash burgers, a red bean hummus and tahini dish and chicken skewers. The shaved squash caesar salad might be your new favorite summer dish: A generous pop of tart anchovy dressing pairs perfectly with the unexpected crunch of thinly-sliced squash.
Wash it all down with a cocktail, or mocktail, provided by Turning Tables, a non-profit that provides mentorship and training to people of color in the service industry. The ‘Staycation,’ a delightfully fruity drink made with pineapple rum and hibiscus, is always a safe bet.
The Margaret Hotel is located at 1133 Margaret Place, New Orleans.
