“After I posted about it, I got so many messages from people saying that they vape or they smoke and they really want to quit and it’s not something that we should be embarrassed about.”

Holly Carpenter has vowed to give up vaping as she admitted that speaking about her addiction “embarrassed” her.

The former Miss Ireland took to her Instagram Stories to tell her followers that she wanted to quit for good.

She explained that she was ready to nip the nasty habit in the bud and asked for tips for removing nicotine from her life.

“I definitely feel like with Instagram and social media in general, there’s a pressure to always put your best foot forward and not to be fully transparent about any bad habits that you have or anything like that,” the 32-year-old began.

“I was at the stage where I was like, ‘No, I actually need to talk about it’, because I feel like if I talk about it, not only will it keep me accountable but also it will just open up the conversation.

“After I posted about it, I got so many messages from people saying that they vape or they smoke and they really want to quit and it’s not something that we should be embarrassed about.

“Everyone has bad habits. There are loads of things out there that are bad for you like eating too much processed food or drinking too much alcohol, not getting enough exercise… We’re all aware of what’s good for you and what’s bad for you.

“I’m just over it now. I really want to quit.”

Holly admitted that she had quit vaping in the past by going “cold turkey” but had found herself picking the habit back up somewhere along the line.

She recalled how she struggled to go without nicotine at first and dreaded the thoughts of doing it again but felt ready to improve her lifestyle this time around.

“The first five days I remember were really tough. I got some really bad headaches, but I just drank loads of water and tried to stay hydrated and distracted.

“I can’t remember why I started vaping again, probably some minor inconvenience, but I’ve definitely cut back and I’m ready.

“I just feel like I’m so into health and wellness and skincare and exercise. It just doesn’t align with the person that I want to be.

“There are so many unknown things about vaping too. It’s relatively new so I’m just like, ‘No, this isn’t good for me. I don’t want to do it anymore.’

“I think if you’re ever in a position where you want to quit something, you have to get to to a point where you’re fully ready and you’re like, ‘I actually don’t want to do this anymore.’

“I’m in a good spot with the fact that no one’s forcing me to do it, I’m actually forcing myself.”

Holly shared some helpful recommendations her followers sent in on how to quit vaping, including using nicotine patches and gum.

However, she decided she wanted to try reading Allen Carr’s book Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Quit Vaping to see if that would help.

“I’ve downloaded it. I’ve set the intention. I’ve already cut back. I’m definitely ready to give this a go.

“Thank you so much to anyone who gave me the moral support. You’d swear I’m announcing that I’m about to do a triathlon or something huge but to me, this is kind of a big thing.

“I just get embarrassed to talk about it… I’m ready for my vape-free life and I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes.”
