LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — One person is in custody after a shooting in Lynchburg Saturday afternoon.

At 2:58 p.m., Lynchburg Police (LPD) responded to the LB Tobacco and Vape Shop on Forest Brook Road for a person with a gunshot wound.

Before officers got there, police said an 18-year-old male victim had already been taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During their initial investigation, LPD determined that the suspect and the victim knew each other, and it appears the two had a verbal fight that led to the shooting. Police said this incident seems to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Savon Ellis, 23, of Lynchburg, was arrested Sunday and is charged with the following:

  • Malicious Wounding
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
  • Reckless Handling of a Firearm
  • Discharge a Firearm in the City
  • Shooting in a Public Place Causing Injury
  • Possession of a Concealed Weapon

This is not Ellis’ first run-in with the law. Back in 2023, Ellis and another suspect were arrested after a 12-year-old Lynchburg girl was grazed by a bullet in her own home.

According to warrants obtained by ABC13, witnesses told officers that they believed Ellis is a part of a Lynchburg gang called “Neighborhood 60’s crips”.
