Gorilla And Dinosaur Statues Found Amid Cannabis And Cash Bust
In a surprising turn of events, Northland police made an unexpected discovery during a recent cannabis and cash bust: life-sized gorilla and dinosaur statues. The statues, which had been stolen from a business in Kerikeri back in May, were found during a series of search warrants conducted in Northland earlier this month.
Along with the impressive statues, an undisclosed amount of cannabis and $13,000 in cash were seized during the raids. The Kerikeri police had been investigating several reports of burglaries in the mid-North and Whangārei areas when they stumbled upon the unusual find.
The find was made at a property where “Sophie” the dinosaur and her life-sized gorilla companion were recovered. Both statues have since been reunited with their rightful owner, although they unfortunately sustained some damage during the time they were stolen.
Detective Sergeant Bart Graham expressed both relief and disappointment over the recovery of the statues. While the owner was grateful to have them back, it was disheartening to see the items returned in a poor condition. Graham emphasized that taking property that doesn’t belong to you is entirely unacceptable.
Additionally, the investigation yielded even more stolen property. Police also found three vehicles, vehicle parts, and a commercial truck and trailer unit believed to have been stolen in recent months.
As a result of the bust, four men between the ages of 18 and 36 have been arrested and charged in relation to these incidents. They are set to appear in the Kaikohe and Whangārei District Courts in the future to face the consequences of their actions.
This unusual case serves as a reminder that stolen property can be found in unexpected places. The recovery of the gorilla and dinosaur statues highlights the importance of thorough investigations and following leads in order to uncover and return stolen items to their rightful owners.
It is crucial for communities to work alongside law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of their property. By reporting any suspicious activities or providing information, individuals can play an active role in preventing theft and aiding in the recovery of stolen goods.
The case of the gorilla and dinosaur statues found amid a cannabis and cash bust serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing efforts to combat theft and protect the belongings of businesses and individuals within our communities.
