Idaho Falls March Advocates for Medicinal Cannabis Rights

IDAHO FALLS – A small yet determined group gathered in Idaho Falls to advocate for the medicinal cannabis rights of Idaho residents. The march took place on a busy bridge, highlighting the ongoing demand for change in cannabis legislation.

The March and Its Participants

The protest kicked off at approximately 4:20 p.m. on the eastern side of the Snake River. Participants marched across Broadway Street, traversed the bridge, and concluded their route at Memorial Drive before looping back. While turnout was modest, the sentiment among the organizers remained optimistic.

“The three people that we did have is more than we would have had five years ago, and it just takes time to get the word across,” remarked Courtney Anderson, the Idaho Falls leader for Legalize Idaho.

Voices from the Movement

Among those joining the march was Sean Crystal, owner of 710 Spectrum, a hemp-derived cannabis shop in Idaho Falls. Crystal emphasized that while the visible turnout may appear small, it represents a broader, evolving movement.

“At the end of the day, honestly, the small movement that you see out at stuff like this is nothing, respective of what the broader movement is,” Crystal stated. “There’s hundreds, thousands more that have fear of doing that here in Idaho.”

Raising Awareness for House Joint Resolution 4

The group took to the streets not only to express their support but to shed light on an important legislative issue. Specifically, they aimed to raise awareness about Idaho’s House Joint Resolution 4, which will be presented on the ballot in November 2026. According to Ballotpedia, if passed, HJR 4 will grant the legislature exclusive authority to legalize marijuana and other psychoactive substances. This would effectively remove the ability for citizen-initiated measures to appear on the ballot, limiting public input on the matter.

“We need to get in there and vote next year and stop this from passing,” Anderson urged. “(This is) about everybody. It’s about the government trying to take control over matters that should be in our hands.”

The Importance of Community Engagement

The protest signifies a growing awareness and willingness among the community to advocate for legislative changes regarding cannabis in Idaho. Despite a small crowd, the sense of community and engagement remains pivotal in driving the conversation forward.

As conversations about cannabis legislation continue to evolve, movements like this are crucial in pushing against longstanding stigma and advocating for patient rights. As Anderson put it succinctly, “It just takes time to get the word across.”
