The Victims
The deceased man has not yet been identified by authorities. The two men who survived the incident were transported to hospitals outside the county and are reported to be in stable condition as of Monday. Their names remain undisclosed, but both have provided statements to investigators.
Timeline of Events
The alarming events unfolded around 9 p.m. on Wednesday when a 911 call was made, indicating that a friend was in need of assistance. The caller abruptly disconnected the line, prompting deputies to track the call to a remote stretch of Mina Road, approximately six to seven miles north of downtown Covelo. Upon arrival, deputies were flagged down by nearby individuals, who led them to a man lying in the road on adjacent Hulls Valley Road, about a mile away. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 12:42 a.m. on Thursday.
Evidence Collected
Upon investigation, law enforcement officials found multiple firearms, spent bullet casings, and a blood trail that led to a cannabis grow site featuring trailers and additional structures. The active presence of illegal cannabis operations in the area raises concerns about the safety and security of the community.
Additional Victims
As deputies continued their investigation around 11 p.m., they were informed that another individual suffering from gunshot wounds had reached Adventist Health Ukiah Valley. After interviewing him and the individual who drove him to the hospital, investigators confirmed that he was also a victim of the same shooting incident.
Third Victim Rescued
The third victim was located around 8:15 a.m. on Thursday and was approximately four miles from the Mina and Hulls Valley roads intersection. He was swiftly airlifted from the location to receive urgent medical care.
