Vaping: The Safer Way to Get a…

In comparison to the traditional cigarette, vaping is a safer option that produces less carcinogens, letting smokers control their nicotine addiction without suffering from withdrawals.

A person smoking cigarette is essentially inhaling nicotine and thousands of other chemicals into their lungs. Though vaping, or e-cigarettes, do pose some risks to our well-being, they are at least 90% less harmful than smoking cigarettes. The health problems caused by cigarettes are less with vapes owing to the fact that they contain nicotine in a more pure liquid form which contains far fewer toxic chemicals.

What is Nicotine?

Found in tobacco plants, nicotine is a highly addictive chemical compound that tobacco smokers often find difficult (or seemingly impossible) to quit. Most cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco and electronic cigarettes contain nicotine of varying strengths.

Nicotine is absorbed into the lungs from where it hits the bloodstream on its way to the brain. As a stimulant, it decreases appetite, increases heart rate and blood pressure, and can make people feel more alert.

Studies have shown that quitting smoking leads to severe withdrawal symptoms and enhanced cravings. This makes it difficult for people to quit the habit; it’s not just the physical withdrawal, but missing the psychological ‘lift’ affects too.

Nicotine Levels in Cigarettes and Vapes

Cigarettes vary in their nicotine quantity, with the mild ones containing only 8mg as opposed to the heavy hitters that can contain up to 20mg of nicotine.

While the nicotine levels vary similarly in vapes, there are some vapes which use nicotine-free cartridges. E-liquid used in vapes usually contain up to 50 mg of nicotine salts per millilitre of juice. E-juice with 3 to 15 mg of nicotine sales for every millilitre of vape juice can replicate the same effects as that of a cigarette.

Why Vaping is a Better Alternative

During vaping, you inhale substantially fewer amounts of chemicals than while smoking a cigarette, making a vape less toxic than a cigarette. It is the lesser of two evils. While quitting is definitely the best option, shifting to a vape from smoking a traditional cigarette is definitely a better way to reduce harmful chemical intake, and more controllable nicotine intake in the long run.

It has been proved by certain studies that the health risks associated with vapes are lesser to those that come with smoking the traditional cigarette.

Choosing an e-cigarette instead of a traditional cigarette also comes with its list of advantages apart from being the safer of the two options.

  • Unlike the traditional tobacco products, like cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, vaping does not stain or damage the teeth
  • There are fewer contaminants in vaping liquid than in cigarettes. These contaminants are the major source of the dangerous effects caused by cigarettes. People using vapes inhale fewer contaminants and chemicals and are therefore exposed to less harmful effects
  • Even the second-hand vapor from the vapes is less dangerous than passive smoking from cigarettes. There is higher chance of children and adults contracting respiratory infection and asthma when exposed to the second-hand smoke of cigarettes. On the other hand, the vapor from the e-cigarettes evaporates quickly and causes no harm to others
  • A major casualty of smoking traditional cigarettes is the bad breath and the unpleasant smell that clings to the clothes, surrounding furniture, walls and car interior. The lingering smell can be quite an irritant for non-smokers, especially in closed quarters, like offices and restaurants. Vaping, on the other hand, has little to no lingering odour

Based on available data over multiple studies, it has been proved that smoking is more dangerous than vaping. Vaping is a safer way to avoid smoking for people who are addicted to nicotine. Vaping can also help people in quitting smoking over time

Given the better health implications of vaping, it is a much safer way for smokers to satisfy their cravings.
