SUPERIOR — A new smoke and vape shop opened in Superior Tuesday, May 17.

NorthLand Smoke & Vape is tucked into the corner of the Timmers Building at 1705 ½ Tower Ave. Its entrance faces the side parking lot along North 17th Street.

The business offers CBD products, e-liquid, disposables, electronic cigarettes, lighters, grinders and glass and water pipes, as well as cleaners, odor sprays and candles. Customers must be age 21 or older to enter.

NorthLand Smoke & Vape is owned by brothers Trevor and Steven Timmers.

Creating a business together, Trevor Timmers said, is “something that me and my brother always wanted to do.”

The owners bring product knowledge to the counter, and provide a number of menus that can help customers narrow down choices and find the best product for their needs. They will also be taking suggestions from customers on additional items to carry. The thing that sets their business apart from other smoke shops in Superior is lower prices, said Timmers, 23.

The brothers built a family business within a family business. Their parents, Steve and Jolene Timmers, own the building. Having entrepreneurs for parents has encouraged them to give it a try.

“It makes you realize that owning your own business is just in some cases harder, but it also gives you a lot of good life experience going through all these different scenarios and situations,” Timmers said.

The 900-square-foot shop space was formerly an unused office. The brothers put in new flooring and added pegboards for products, as well as the glass counter/display case. It’s been challenging and a bit stressful to set up the business, Timmers said, but it felt good to open the doors Tuesday.

“Like a relief, like I’m finally ready to start my business,” he said.

The brothers plan to put a sign up on the side of the Timmers Building so passersby along Tower Avenue can find their shop. They are the sole employees currently.

The business is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The brothers plan to hold a grand opening in a few weeks. Visit the Facebook page or website for more information on the business.
