Modern methods to quit smoking

Over 1 billion people still smoke. This is a staggering number for an addition that has proven to be extremely damaging for long-term health. Whilst it heavily depends on the country, smoking remains a very normal activity for much of the world.

Since research has shone a light on its dangers, there’s been half a century, at least, of people trying to stop. And, it’s hard. Fortunately, new research, new technology and new methods are constantly being innovated.

Pouches

A great way to stop smoking, or reduce the amount of smoking, is to change the way you consume nicotine – the main addictive substance of smoking. This isn’t a cold turkey method, but quitting smoking doesn’t have to. Nicotine itself isn’t as harmful as the tar in the cigarette, so safe alternatives to consuming nicotine is a welcomed change.

Nicotine can be consumed in pouches, for example, Killapods pouches, which allow smokers to scratch their itch whilst not smoking the harmful tar substance. These are easily stored, purchased, and quick to consume on-the-go.

Not only is this a healthier alternative, but the change in habit can be a great way to bring down nicotine intake.  Pouches can be found in all kinds of varieties and to varying strengths and tastes. Another benefit of this is that nicotine can be consumed in scenarios where smoking is prohibited, which could be what attracts some smoker to switch over to them – even if they’re not totally (yet) interested in quitting.

E-Cigarettes

Vaping needs no introduction, although the laws surrounding it may. Different countries have different restrictions and beliefs on vaping, and things rapidly change.

Vaping, by now, has been tested rigorously and proven to be less harmful than smoking. Like with pouches, vaping is a less harmful way of consuming nicotine. But unlike pouches, the habit remains – putting the object in the mouth, which can feel more familiar. There are plenty of flavours, and even options without nicotine, meaning you can feed the habit of smoking/vaping without consuming nicotine – a highly effective way of weening off the substance.

CBD Oil

CBD oil has become very popular, very quickly. A study published in 2013 by the University College London proved CBD oil to can help reduce smoking via CBD vape pen. Such a vape pen didn’t necessarily prevent the urge to smoke, but it became a valid substitute, meaning the potential cigarettes smoked was 40% less.

This could make a huge difference to peoples health. On top of this, CBD boasts many health benefits, such as better sleep, reduced pain, and prevention of seizures in some instances. Whilst people should individually consult with their doctor, CBD can be a low-risk supplement that can help soothe anxiety, addiction and some health problems.

Alternatively, traditional methods such as behavioural therapy can be great ways to stop smoking. These methods can help you understand why it is that you want to smoke, and what the triggers are. Perhaps certain situations, environments, or emotions are triggers, and a counsellor can help bring them to your attention.
