An officer present at Union County High School was alerted by another student of the smell of marijuana emanating from the girls’ bathroom, where the juvenile had already gone to her class. After an investigation, the officer and an administrator detected an odor of marijuana. The student was subsequently apprehended by the officer and admitted to having a THC vape pen in her backpack. A second THC vape pen was found in her hoodie.
After signing a juvenile custodial release form, the student was handed over to her parents.
As per WSPA.com, a CBS-affiliated TV station, several other high schools in South Carolina have seen an increase in the number of THC vaping incidents and the administration of these schools are urging parents to be aware and to talk to their children about the dangers of THC vaping. In addition, since THC is still illegal to possess and use under federal law, legal penalties for possessing a THC vape pen or cartridge can be severe.
